Georgia potter builds robots out of clay; works on exhibit at Perspectives in Watkinsville

Decatur potter Michael Klapthor was shaping clay about four years ago for an art show with a science-fiction theme when lo and behold a figure emerged. A thick-bodied thing with a weathered and worn look had taken shape. It was the tell-tale image of a robot that was spawned from the potter’s muddy hands. Since that day, many clay robots have taken shape in Klapthor’s studio. On Aug. 26, some samples of these robots will come to Watkinsville. The 14th Annual Perspectives Georgia Pottery Invitation opens that day at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation Center. And one of the galleries…

Four-run fifth inning gives Oconee County 6-3 win against North Oconee

Down 3-2 going to the bottom of the fifth inning, Oconee County got a two-run home run from Hannah Patridge that gave the Lady Warriors a lead they didn’t relinquish against Highway 53 rival North Oconee. The Lady Warriors added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, held off a rally in the top of the sixth inning and got the Lady Titans in order in the top of the seventh inning to earn the 6-3 victory and pick up their first Region 8-AAAA win of the season.
